Ned brings up some great points about getting into a franchise, especially if you're a veteran.
First, take advantage of the resources available to veterans interested in entrepreneurship, such as seminars and workshops offered by the VA. Second, be financially prepared and have a safety net in place to cover operating costs during slow periods. The first year you're getting the business off the ground so you don't want to be worried about the bills or payroll. Third, consider the benefits of being part of a franchise, including the support, guidance, and pre-templated plans provided. A lot of people think they can do the same thing on their own. Consider the time it takes to develop everything right. Time is Money. Often times it will take you 3 years before you get to the point the franchise will have you in 6 months. Maintain a structured approach, discipline, and a focus on customer service to achieve success as a business owner. Understand that the vision for your business may evolve and be open to adapting and refining your strategies. Be versatile, adapt and overcome.
